<p>1517522 Solvent-in-pulp ion exchange KENNECOTT COPPER CORP 10 June 1975 [13 June 1974] 24743/75 Heading C1A One or more of the metal values copper and nickel are recovered from a manganese containing ore, by introducing a stream of ore into a reaction vessel containing cuprous ions in an aqueous ammoniacal ammonium carbonate solution to enable the cuprous ions to reduce the manganese oxides in the ore and solubilize the copper and nickel values, delivering the reduced manganese ore slurry from the reaction vessel to a mixer/ settler, lowering the pH of the slurry to at least 10 but not lower than 8À5, maintaining the amount of solid in the slurry in the mixer/settler at 20% by weight or less, introducing a liquid ion exchange organic extractant, e.g. an oxime, capable of extracting copper and nickel values from the slurry into the mixer/settler, the volume of slurry and organic extractant being maintained at a ratio so that the organic extractant is the continuous phase in the mixer/settler, and extracting copper and/or nickel metal values from the slurry with the extractant. The metal values may be stripped from the loaded organic phase with sulphuric acid.</p> |
