1517765 Feeding powdered coal to gasifying apparatus SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 26 Aug 1975 [28 Aug 1974] 35133/75 Heading F4B In apparatus for the gasification of powdered coal by partial combustion with oxygen (or a gas containing oxygen), the coal is supplied through the central tube 6 into reactor chamber 2, oxygen and possibly steam being fed through the outer pipe 7. The pipes are mounted in the floor of a chamber 4 which is kept part-filled with water from inlet 13. Slag 14 runs out of the reactor through a constriction 1 and falls into the water, being removed later at 15. The coal is carried in a stream of oxygen, and further oxygen 11 may be supplied at points 12. The constriction 1 may be round and 3-10 times the diameter of pipe 7. Alternatively (Fig. 2) there may be a number of sets of tubes arranged in a line, the constriction being an elongated rectangle. |
