1517581 Labelling machines BUNKER RAMO CORP 1 May 1975 [23 July 1974] 18282/75 Heading B8F Apparatus for applying to an object, e.g. a passbook, a patch from a succession of spaced patches releasably carried on a tape, comprises means for separating the path from the tape as it moves past a first position, means sensing the presence of an object and operative to move the object and the tape to separate the patch and apply it to the object, and means responsive to another of the patches to position the other patch in a predetermined second position. The patch may be magnetic, consisting of a magnetic guide layer secured by adhesive to a polyester film having a further adhesive layer to attach it to the tape or to the passbook. In Fig. 7, a passbook 24 is inserted into an adjustable guide channel (not shown) to abut a stop 66 and actuate a switch arm 28. This results after a short time delay in energization of solenoid 54 to remove stop 66 and apply pressure roller 60 to the passbook and press it against drive roll 26. After a further short time delay the drive roller 26 and rolls 46, 48 driving tape 34 are driven by a motor at the same peripheral speed so that a patch 36 stripped off the tape at nose 47<SP>1</SP> is applied to the passbook. The motor is maintained energized by passage of a following patch 36 past a lamp 47 and photocell 47a, whereby the drive continues until the trailing edge of that patch leaves the light path, and then is stopped to position the patch 36 in relation to the position at which the next inserted passbook again operates arm 28, so that each patch is precisely positioned on its passbook. |
