1,198,888. Gas analysis. NAPHTACHIMIE. Nov.28, 1968 [Nov.30, 1967], No.56484/68. Heading G1B. A device for the discontinuous sampling of a gaseous mixture in a pipe 3 from a heat cracking furnace comprises a sampler tube 1 one end of which is introduced into the pipe 3 and the other end of which is connected to a circuit in a chamber 10 maintained at a temperature of at least 150‹C., the circuit comprising a sampling valve 15 to periodically isolate a sample of gaseous mixture of given volume carrier gas being fed to a conduit 17 to allow the sample to be removed to an analyzer e.g. a gas chromatograph via a pipe 18. The device is mounted on a connecting tube 2 on the pipe 3 and is arranged to be demountable by sliding the sampler tube 1 out through a sealing stuffing box 5, a valve 6 being closed before the tube 1 is completely removed. A valve 12 is opened and gases pass through a cyclone separator 13 and filter 14 to removed condensates and entrained solid particles, to the valve 15 which is of known construction. A vent pipe 16 allows collection of the gas sample at atmospheric pressure. The chamber 10 is preferably maintained at between 200 and 250‹C. by a heater 11, the gases in the pipe 3 being at approximately 400‹C. After collection of a sample the valve 12 is closed and valves 9 and one in a conduit 7 are opened allowing water vapour to purge the tubes 1, 2. The valves may be automatically operated in sequence to provide automatic sample collection at desired time intervals. |
