<p>The process of attaching a hub or boss (2) to a shaft (1) employs a sleeve (3) which is fitted between them. This sleeve consists of two parts (3a, 3b) each with a flange which fits against the end of the other part with a welded ring (5, 6) between the abutting parts. Each part carries a groove around it, shaped so that the two grooves align after welding to form an annular chamber (4) inside the sleeve. Connections (11, 12) with channels (9, 13) communicate with the chamber so that it can be subjected to hydraulic pressure, expanding the sleeve between the hub and shaft. Intermediate tapered sleeve (7, 8) can be fitted to obtain an initial fit before applying the hydraulic pressure.</p> |
