Monitoring prestressing forces in multistand rolling mill - using load cells between the roll chocks and the stands

The pulling- or pushing- forces exerted on the workpiece are monitored between the stands of a multistand rolling mill, using at least one load cell located between a roll chock and a side part of each stand. A prestressing force is applied to the load cells, and the alterations to this force are measured during rolling. A device is pref. employed to apply the prestressing force to the load cell, esp. a leaf spring or a compression coil spring employed to push the chock against the load cell; alternatively, a prestressed hydraulic load cell may be used.
