1,165,730. Stacking sheets. AMETEK Inc. 24 Oct., 1966 [24 Oct., 1965], No. 47664/66. Heading B8C. [Also in Division D1] A sheet to be stacked and which has been quarter- or French-folded (see Division D1), passes between rollers 56, 57, of which the latter is an idler roller, and is guided by a deflector 65 between a belt 61 and a plate 66 on which it is received. Guide rollers 59, 60 for the belt 61 are journalled at opposite ends of a bar 62 pivotally mounted by rods 63, 64 so as to float to accommodate different sheet thicknesses. The folded sheet actuates a switch 67 which causes a clutch 67A to become disengaged to stop the belt 61 and which also causes a piston in a cylinder 68 to rapidly retract an inclined rod 69 to pull the plate 66 from under the folded sheet which falls on to a plurality of spaced vertical plates 70. The plate 66 actuates a switch 71 to reverse the air flow to the cylinder 68 to restore the plate 66 to its original position. A plate 77 is secured to the top of the two inner plates 70 and as the stack of folded sheets on the plates 70 builds up a piston rod 78 connected to the plate 77 descends due to a bleeding of air from a cylinder 79. When a predetermined number of sheets have been stacked a switch 80 is actuated so that the rod 78 descends rapidly and the stack is deposited on to a conveyer 72 which delivers the stack on to a table 81. A switch 82 is actuated by the stack and air is admitted to the cylinder 79 to raise the plates 70 to their sheet receiving position.
