Pressure pulses having a frequency proportional to an engine speed are generated by apertured rotary disc 9 and pass along lines 13, 14 of unequal length to the control ports 16, 17 of a bi-stable switch 15 whose outlets 19, 20 connect via capacitors 21, 22 to the control ports of amplifier 23. The outlets of the latter control a second amplifier 32 having its outlets connected across a spring-loaded diaphragm 4 adapted to control the fuel injection pump of the engine. A variable control pressure is applied at 28 to amplifier 23 in opposition to a constant pressure at 30 and determines the set speed. |
