1515738 Fused bath metal electro-plating F VON STUTTERHEIM and J WURM 23 Oct 1975 [23 Oct 1974] 43640/75 Heading C7B Ag or more noble metal, e.g. Au, Pt, Pd, is electro-plated on to continuous wire or strip passed through a melt containing an alkali and/or alkaline earth metal cyanide, cyanamide and/or thiocyanate and optionally cyanate and/or carbonate in which a salt of the deposition metal is provided either as such or by chemical or electro-chemical formation in situ. The substrate is guided in the bath over guides of an oxide of Al, Be, Si, Y or Zr, a nitride of Si, B or Ti or a carbide of Si or Ti. An inert or vacuum atmosphere is used. The substrate may be an easily passivated metal e.g. W, Mo, Cu, Ta, FeNi, Nb, Zr, Ti or Al. The guide may have supports or bearings made or surfaced with a passivating or noble metal, e.g. Mo, Nb, Ta, Ti, W and their alloys. |
