Thermoplastic moulding materials consist of (a) 2-98% (pref. 10-90%) by wt. of a linear thermoplastic polyester A, (b) 98-2% (pref. 90-10%) by wt. of is not 1 thermoplastic linear polyester B (different from A) and/or is not 3% by wt. of a polycarbonate and (c) is not 0.1-50% of th total wt. of (a) + (b) of is not 1 polymer contg. -C(O)NH- gps., as well as the normal additives. A and B are homo-or co-polymers derived from 2-40C aliphatic, 6-10C cycloaliphatic or 8-14C aromatic dicarboxylic acid and 2-12C aliphatic, 5-8C cycloaliphatic or 6-16C aromatic diols or from 7-14c aromatic or 2-12C aliphatic hydroxycarboxylic acids. Mixts. of polyesters have had limited uses as moulding materials because of the degradation that occurs at moulding temps.; in addn., trans-esterification ma occur. These reactions make it difficult to produce moulded materials with reproducible properties. Use of polymers contg. amido gps. provides the necessary stabilisation, enabling materials to be prepd. for use in industrial applications, household utensils, electrical insulation, in cars, as constructional elements in the electrical and electronics industries, etc.
|
