The bearing system for building construction components has several bearing elements consisting of elastomer pads held between rigid cover plates. The pads are bonded to rigid plates. The bearing elements are compressed initially to a depth less than the gap width and then inserted into gap under building component. The compressing clamping bolts are subsequently released to allow the bearing element to expand and to contact building component. The bearing elements can be compressed also while inserted for removing or for support element shifting purposes. The bearing element has elastomer block sandwiched between end plates (4) each of which has outwards projecting lugs (24) whose level is below end plate load bearing face (14). Bolts (5) are held in lugs for compressing.
