The earth moving vehicle is fitted with a safety brake lever next to the gear selector lever (22) to operate the safety brakes when pulled into the raised position. The lever linkage is coupled to the gear linkage in such a way as to move the gear setting to neutral when the brake is set. A second linkage blocks the transmission. The driver only has to pull up the brake lever to secure the vehicle, with the transmission set to neutral and the brakes applied. Further interlocks prevent the ignition being operated in the braking position while the brake lever can also reset the throttle setting to 'Stop'.
