The internal pressure of the protective gas in gastight spaces, e.g. of glove boxes for handling radioactive or toxic materials, is controlled by a gauge with four switch contacts, set at different pressures. A solenoid valve is arranged in the gas supply and another in a bypass of a restrictor to limit the exhausted gas flow; these valves are linked to the switch contacts and to a panel for display and control. If the minimum or maximum pressure thresholds are exceeded by operational activities (insertion or extraction of gloves), these fluctuations are disregarded. Mistaken interruptions of the gas supply and downtimes are thereby eliminated.
