1514325 Detection of antigen or antibody GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 22 July 1975 [3 Sept 1974] 30630/75 Heading G1B Detected biological particles in a liquid sample are detected by a method comprising contacting the surface of a substrate with first biological particles which are specifically reactive with the selected particles to form a layer of the first particles, contacting the layer with the liquid sample so that any selected particles present bond with the first particle layer, depositing a porous opaque layer of particles over the surface and contacting the surface so treated with a clearing agent solution capable of destroying bonding between the selected particles and the first particles, the presence in the liquid sample of the selected particles being indicated by the removal of a part of the opaque layer from the substrate surface. The opaque layer may comprise particles of metal, glass or plastics material such as polystyrene or fluorocarbon wax. The clearing agent may be pH 1 to 5 acid, pH 9 to 13 alkali, sodium acetate buffer on a salt solution. Examples relate to determination of bovine serum albumin, Toxoplasma gondii and human chorionic gonadotropin.
