The extinction circuit is designed to permit a more rapid return to the blocked state of the continuous current regulating circutis principal thyristor. The recuperation time of the thyristors blocking power does therefor not have to be very short. The extinction circuit also improves the performance of the principal thyristors by increasing the amplitude and duration of the inverse biassing of the thyristor. The circuit is of the type having a principal thyristor mounted in parallel with a capacitance and inductance and also a diode. A resistance is connected in series with the diode. The circuit enables the time of application of the inverse voltage to be 1.5 times normal. For a given current to be switched, the introduction of the resistance (R1) enables one to use a capacitor (C) whose capacity is reduced by 1.5 times. The circuit also enables one to use a thyristor (Th1) whose blocking capacity recuperation time is about 1.5 times larger than normal.
|
