<p>The base of the bumper is a U-section metal bar, rigidly attached to the vehicle frame, with a U-section plastic cover. The cover is attached by its ends to the vehicle frame, with a U-section plastic cover. The cover is attached by its ends to the vehicle frame and can move backwards towards the rigid metal bar. The space between bar and cover is filled with foam plastics. Pref. the outer cover is of thermoplastic material, and the foam filling, a closed cell polymer, esp. either polyurethane or latticed polyethylene.
