The insulating block for female or single pole socket electrodes. The block allows a stacked array or matrix to be built up within an overall casing and is intended to provide a high electrode density. The block is made up of a series of rectangular plates with integral parallel walls forming compartments which each hold a single electrode. The walls have a tapered shoulder about halfway along their length which serves to trap the cylindrical electrode once inserted into position by engaging with a tongue extending from the cylinder outer surface. The plates are stacked to form a block the outer surfaces of which are shaped to engage with ribs on the inside surface of the block enclosure.
