PURPOSE:To allow the specified change in the phase of an optical Kerr waveform and to prevent the generation of crosstalks by forming the optical Kerr waveguide of an optical Kerr medium satisfying specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The optical Kerr medium includes the material which satisfies tauL>=2DELTAt0 with respect to the pulse width t0 of control light 3 when the refractive index length is designated as L and the group delay difference between signal light 2 and the control light 3 as tau. Since the group delay difference of the control light 3 and the signal light 2 is large, the control light 3 eventually sweeps the signal light 2 in the optical Kerr waveguide 1. The part swept at this time acts as an optical Kerr shutter and changes the phase of the signal light 2. The phase change of this time is the specified value determined by the energy of the control light 3 and the rectangular optical Kerr waveform is obtd. The optical switching without having the crosstalks is executed in this way even if there is a jitter between the signal light 2 pulses and the control light 3 pulses. |
