Transfer drum for electrostatic copier - uses conducting materials and foam layer with drum running eccentrically between isolating bands

The transfer drum for an electrostatic copier uses different principles to conventional high voltage and corona discharge types. The motorised drum (1, 2) is made out of electrically conducting material. The metal drum (1) is coated with an electrically conducting foam material (2) which carries the duplicating paper. The drum runs eccentrically between isolating bands on its axis (7) and is driven by a motor (8). An electrical potential is connected to the foam from an external source (9) through spring and slip-ring contacts (10, 11).
