A flash cube has a transparent housing for the four flash bulbs inside which are retained four paper reflectors. Each reflector has a central curved part behind the bulb, and two diverging sides to reflect the light forwards in a given direction. Each arm fits against an arm of an adjacent reflector, and each pair of arms fits into a conner of the housing. The housing has prismatic portions which also direct the light as required, and the centre part of the prismatic portion forms the corner. In an alternative strip form, the housing contains two rows of buls with their reflectors facing alternately in opposite directions, but the same shape as before. The ends of the arms fit similarly into recesses in the centre of the prismatic portions located along the front and rear parts of the transparent housing.
