[Also in Division F1] In a gas turbine engine 1 having a compressor 2, combustion chambers 3 and 4, fuel nozzles 6 and 7, and a turbine 5, supply of fuel from a tank 8 is effected through lines 9a, 11, 14 and 31 having incorporated therein a supply pump 9, a fuel pump 10, a fuel control unit 12 and a valve 15, the valve permitting drainage of unused fuel from the combustion chambers subsequent to shutting down of the engine. As shown, the valve 15 comprises a cylindrical casing 16, plug members 19 and 20 at the respective ends of the casing defining flow passages thereinto and carrying seals 21 and 22 at their inner ends, a cup-shaped piston 17 biased by a spring 18 towards plug member 19, and a swivel connection 23 disposed intermediate the ends of the casing and sealed relative thereto by two concentric seals 24, 25. Two passages 29, whose axial separation is less than the length of piston 17, are provided in the casing such that with the piston in the position shown, connection 23, and hence the engine 1, may be vented to tank via plug 20, whilst when the line 14 is pressurized, such pressurized fuel moves the piston to the right and so allows fuel entering plug 19 to pass through to other passage 29 and into the connection 23, and hence also into the engine. |
