<p>The system of studs for snow and ice use on a road vehicle is adjustable from inside the vehicle. A wheel body (1) has a support (3) with a tube (5) welded to it. On a flat part are screwed or welded the stud guides (4). Square tubes (6, 7) fit the crampon support rods (18). These are capped by a T section part (13) which carries the stud points (14). These are held at a dia. less than that of the tyre and are acted on by springs (27). A hydraulic ram (24) can be actuated from inside the vehicle to engage the studs. When released, the springs return the studs to the rest position.</p> |
