<p>1511785 Finishing and straightening fabric C ARBTER 1 Oct 1976 [3 Oct 1975] 40803/76 Heading D1S [Also in Division B4] An apparatus for aligning a longitudinal textile web 5 having alternate, transversely extending thinner and thicker portions 10, 11 and for severing the web transversely, substantially in the middle of each thinner portion, comprises means 52 for drawing the web from a supply reel 4, an aligning device 46 cooperating, in use, with a trailing edge of a thicker portion 11, a cutting device 39 for severing the web and a plurality of braking rollers 16 adapted to exert a braking force on the web during the aligning operation. The braking rollers are mounted on an arm 15 normally pivoted by a plate 32 on a carriage 30 to hold the rollers out of engagement with the web. The aligning device comprises a member 46 connected to a piston rod of a cylinder 40 mounted on the carriage. A cutting blade 35 is connected to a piston rod 34 of a cylinder 33 mounted on the carriage. In use, a pneumatic cylinder is operated to move the carriage thereby allowing the rollers to engage the web to apply a braking force as the web is drawn from the reel by grippers 59. At the same time the member 46 is lowered by the cylinder 40 so that the member engages with the edge of a thicker portion 11 as shown in Fig. 1 thereby aligning such edge prior to the thinner portion being severed by the blade 35.</p> |
