<p>The shaped block of ceramic material is used for making split strips or split slabs, esp. as used in facing wall and floor surfaces, where two pieces are separated by a splitting process after burning. The block is U-shaped, with its shanks (1) additionally interconnected by one or more stiffening cross arms (3). Shanks intervening centre piece (2) and reinforcing cross arms are defined relative to each other by keyed grooves (4) which form predetermined breaking points. There may be further cross arm pieces running parallel to the shanks. Notches can be provided on both sides of the breaking points. This configuration permits the spliting process to bbe mechanised, with less material wastage at the split.</p> |
