1512161 Measuring potential of submerged structures MORGAN BERKELEY & CO Ltd and J H MORGAN 7 Jan 1977 [12 Jan 1976] 01002/76 Heading G1N The potential (V a ) at points P along a submerged metal structure, e.g. a pipe-line, relative to the liquid is determined from a measurement of the potential difference Vp across the liquid between points adjacent P and adjacent sacrificial anodes 11 of known electrolytic potential (Vb) relative to the liquid (V a = V b - V p ). Preferably, a test electrode is towed along the structure and the variations in potential relative to a remote reference electrode monitored. The test electrode may comprise an array of electrodes straddling the pipe-line, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), which allows deviations of the array to be compensated for and the steering of the vessel to be corrected. |
