<p>1511858 Treating sludges with sulphur NICHIREKI CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO Ltd 26 Nov 1975 [29 Nov 1974] 48485/75 Heading C1C A process for treating sludges containing heavy metals, arsenic and other poisonous pollutants, comprises adding a bituminous emulsion and at least one member selected from sulphur compounds and colloidal sulphur to the sludges to coagulate and solidify the sludges. The sludges may be from sewage, industrial waste water, deposits in rivers, lakes, harbours and sea coasts, soils and sands and radio-active wastes. The sulphur compound may be one with the group - SH, or an alkali metal salt thereof or a polysulphide, e.g. calcium polysulphide, dodecyl mercaptan or its sodium salt, or mercaptobenzothiazole. The bituminous emulsion may be cationic, anionic or non-ionic, and the bituminous component at least one member from straight asphalt, blown or semiblown asphalt, natural lake asphalt, coal tar, oil tar, pitch, rubber-incorporated asphalt and resin-incorporated asphalt. An inorganic or organic coagulant may also be added.</p> |
