1511729 Linings for containers ZEPHYR PLASTIC PRODUCTS Ltd 14 July 1976 [31 Oct 1975] 45298/75 Headings B8K and B8P [Also in Division B5] A filling tube for a container liner, which may be of polyethylene, for bulk granular materials is made by placing either a sheet 12 or the inlet part of the liner 29 over a tapered mandrel 18, Fig. 2, to cause an upstanding lip to be formed and placing an inlet tube 11 over the lip and heat welding together the tube and lip. If a separate sheet 12 is used this is subsequently heat welded to the liner there being an aperture in the liner immediately below the inlet. The mandrel may be circular or non-circular such as square or triangular. The welding of the tube to the lip is effected by a pair of jaws 21 reciprocated automatically along rods 19 by a pneumatic cylinder. Each semicircular jaw is lined with a ring of fireclay insulating a metal hand connected to an electric heating element there being a glass-fibre tape coated with P.T.F.E. on each jaw face to provide a non-stick surface. A hard rubber ring faced with P.T.F.E. coated glass-fibre tape surrounds the bottom part of the mandrel and a sheet of hard rubber shields the liner 29 from the heat of the jaws. |
