Material having a relatively high degree of hydration is introduced into a linear, turbulent gas stream of pre-determined length at a pre-determined position, introducing an agglomerating liquid downstream from this position, so that the powdered material and liquid are mixed in the lubulent gas stream to form a porous agglomerate which is transferred directly into a drying atmosphere to dry and fix the agglomerates. Pregelatinised starch and other polysaccharides are agglomerated without interference from pulpy or rubber type materials which form in prior art processes. |
