A spinneret plate for use in melt spinning artificial filaments has slot-shaped extrusion of non-circular cross-section orifices each having a cross-section in a plane parallel to the spinneret extrusion face in the form of an arc or in the form of two arms symmetrically disposed with respect to one another and radiating from the same point, each arm being rectilinear at least in the region of the point, and the angle between the two arms in the said region being from 90 degrees to 160 degrees, preferably from 100 degrees to 120 degrees. Each end portion of the arcuate cross-section may be expanded and the width of the expanded end portion may be from 1À5 to 3À5 times the width of an unexpanded portion of the cross-section of the orifice. The width of the orifice (apart from any expanded ends) may be 0À06 to 0À3 mm. Plan views of examples of orifices according to the invention are shown in Figs. 1 to 6. |
