The solar collector's cooling pipes are placed in the gas-filled space between the absorber and the transparent cover, at some distance from the absorber. Heat transfer is improved. The cooling pipes may be ribbed, and may themselves be coated with absorbing material. For the more economical used of materials the collector is to be assembled largely on site.
