1511102 Peroxide derivatives PENNWALT CORP 18 June 1976 [17 July 1975] 25397/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel peroxides of the formula wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-4 alkyl group, R 2 and R 3 are C 1-8 alkyl groups, R 4 is a C 4-10 -t-alkyl, C 9-16 t-aralkyl, C 6-12 t-cycloalkyl, -CONR 6 R 8 or -COOR 7 group, D is a C 2-8 alkynylene or C 1-8 alkylene group, Z is a -O-CO-OR 5 or -O-CO-NR 6 R 8 group, R 5 and R 7 are C 1-8 alkyl, C 5-11 cycloalkyl, C 7-18 aralkyl, or aryl groups and R 6 and R 8 are hydrogen atoms or C 1-8 alkyl, C 5-6 cycloalkyl, allyl, phenyl or C 7-10 (alkylphenyl) groups, are obtained from diols of the formula by various methods via peroxy alcohol intermediates. 3,7 - Dimethyl - 7 - (t - butylperoxy) octyl alcohol is prepared by recting 3,7-dimethyl-7- hydroxy octyl alcohol with hydrogen peroxide and alkylating the 3,7-dimethyl-7-hydroperoxy octyl alcohol with t-butyl alcohol. The above peroxides of Formula I may be used as cross-linking agents for natural or synthetic polymers. |
