1326058 Supporting suspended ceilings WILSON LIGHTING Ltd 5 Nov 1970 [6 Nov 1969] 52748/70 Heading E1W Supporting metal, e.g. beams 11, 12 for a suspended ceiling made, e.g. of lighting units, are constructed to allow for thermal expansion at joints by forming the end of one beam, e.g. 11 with an elongate slit 26 and arranging the material each side of the slit in different planes, by, e.g., binding one portion down. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the beams 11 have lateral end lugs 20 with tabs 23 engaging in slits 24 in the beams 12, the ends 25 of the flanges 19 of the top hat sectioned beams being bent up, and a cover plate 26 with slits 38 similar to slits 26 is provided. In the embodiment of Fig. 6, all the beams have slits, and interengaging slotted lateral end lugs 40, 41 are provided at each side of beams 12 and 11 respectively. A simple cover plate with gripping end lugs 37 is provided in this embodiment. Holes or transverse slots 28 are provided at the ends of the slits 26, the slots being able to accommodate hanger rods 29. Otherwise slits 34 are provided for straps 33. |
