<p>1443564 Sheet forming ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 17 Aug 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 38885/73 Heading B5A A plastics or toffee sheet is cuspated by an apparatus including a comb, Fig. 2, comprising an array of projections set in a support so that the height of each projection is adjustable, and each projection can be clamped in its adjusted position by, e.g. a slidable plate 8 moved by a screw 10. The projections are preferably loaded by springs 11. The comb is caused to interdigitate with other projections or apertures to deform the sheet. In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 1, not shown, two sets of combs are carried on endless belts (5) and are moved to deform an intervening sheet (1) from an extruder (2) by cams (6). In Fig. 3, not shown, each projection (14) is clamped by a flexible sleeve (15) forced into contact with the projection by a pressurized fluid. The projections may be clamped by chuck devices, or by grooved tensioning strips. The combs can be cooled. Examples of plastics sheets given in the Specification include vinyl polymers, polyolefins polystyrene, polyesters, polyamides, thermoplastic rubbers.</p> |
