1406024 Patterning fabrics; needled fabrics; pile fabrics CIKALON-VLIESSTOFFWERK GmbH 26 March 1974 [7 April 1973] 13478/74 Headings D1K D1R and D1S [Also in Division B6] In a method of producing a decoratively patterned non-woven fabric loose staple fibres of a given colour is loosely deposited onto a mono-coloured or melange-coloured foundation web 3 preconsolidated by needling and/ or by binders, the loose fibres are needled into the foundation web only in the regions required by the pattern, the web being stationary, the non-needled staple fibres are removed by suction and the entire web needled as it is advanced. The cycle of depositing coloured fibres, needling and removing non-needled fibres may be repeated (e.g. 2 or 3 times) to give a multicoloured pattern prior to the overall needling. To ensure a web of uniform thickness the last cycle may invalue needling all previously uneedled areas. A previously consolidated web may be applied prior to the overall needling. This needling may raise a pile on the fabric. As shown the fibres are deposited from ducts 19 which extends across the width of the fabric and are spread by a driven feed roller 22. A brushing roller 23 lessens the fibres deposited on the uneedled areas and facilitates their removal up duct 24 by suction caused by fan 20. The needle boards 6, 7 8 are reciprocated by the rotation of eccentric disk 12. The depth to which the needles penetrate may be adjusted by gear 13 which adjusts the position of mounting block 14 within guides 15. The webs and the staple fibres may comprise polyamide, polypropylene or polyacrylic ester. |
