Spectacle frames with curved branches for supporting the sidearms are made from flat sheet claimped between press tools while the ends of the sheet are heated, bent and cut to create the branches. Simultaneously, if a hot press is used with suitable cavities, part of the flat sheet may be remoulded to produce enhanced thickness at selected positiones, e.g. the bridge or nose support pads. The central zone of the frame is machined to produce grooved lens window and decorations while still flat, then opt. converted by a second pressing operation to a gently curved profile. The tools required are much simpler than those necessary for e.g. injection moulding a fully cured frame with side branches in one shot.
|
