1,213,184. Road sweeping machines. J. H. ERIKSSON. 31 Jan., 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 5093/68. Heading E1G. In a road-sweeping trailer comprising a power-driven brush 1 which is adjustably inclined to the direction of propulsion and so sweeps refuse into a roadside heap or strand to be collected by a further machine, dustladen air is extracted from the brush housing 4 by a fan 7 and is passed through a filter or, as shown, through a cyclone 8. The separated dust may be periodically collected from the cyclone container 10, or may be discharged to the road or roadside by a rotatable telescopic tube 11, either continuously, or periodically by a weight-loaded door 12. The brush and housing are carried by a U-member 2 pivoted to a lifting frame 3 connected to the draft vehicle, the brush being driven either by a power takeoff or by a separate motor. In a modification the housing 4 has wheels and is connected to the frame 2-3 by swinging links allowing relative vertical movement. In this construction the cyclone is replaced by a baffle-protected filter sleeve within the housing, compacted dust falling from the sleeve either on to the road ahead of the brush 1, or on to a screw conveyor discharging it to a container or to the roadside. For snow clearing the housing 4 and filter unit are removed. |
