The lever-operated catch (8) for sliding doors or windows is mounted in a housing (1) which can be let into the door (6) edge. The housing may be of similar lightweight metal to the door and the catch may be concealed. The lever (2) supports an interchangeable and reversable hooked-catch (8) which is also adjustable relative to the staple (10). The housing also contains a lever-recoil spring. The housing may be of a open-slotted box section with two horizontal L-section webs (16, 17) projecting from a vertical fascia plate. The end returns of the webs (16, 17) face the interior of the housing, the fascia plate including a window (15) for access to the lever handle.
