Aromatic polycarbonate moulding compsns. contain 1-50 (5-40) esp. 20-30 wt.% glas beads, w.r.t. total wt. of glass beads + thermoplastic polycarbonate. Pref. the polycarbonates are derived from diphenols, e.g. bisphenol-A, and they may be crosslinked by incorporating 0.05-2 mol.% w.r.t. diphenol of 3+ -functional cpds. esp. cpds. contg. 3+phenolic OH gps. The polycarbonates pref. have Mw 10000-200000 (esp. 20000-80000). The glass beads pref. have dia. 0.2(0.001-0.05)mm. Glass bead reinforcement increases rigidity, dimensional stability, heat-stability and E-modulus, without changing impact tenacity. Replacement of glass fibre fillers by glass beads improves tenacity and coalescing seam strength. |
