Cellulosics thickened paints - contain an amine formaldehyde enzyme inhibitor

An aqs. paint compsn. is thickened to a viscosity of 80-100Ku units by addn. of a cellulosic thickening agent which is itself stabilised against enzymatic degradation by addn. of 0.05-2 wt. % (based on aqs. composition) of an adduct of formaldehyde and a prim. amine. The adduct is of formula Q-NH-CH2OH (if the amine is prim) or QRN-CH2OPH (if the amine is sec.) (where Q and R are (substd.) alkyl or (substd.) alkoxy with Q+R =10C).
