Index pad selector knob and release catch - are both operated against springs for selection and to open cover

A table top index has a base (1) carrying a stack of pages (2) and a hinged cover (3) carrying another stack of index pages (4) which then rest on the lower stages when closed. The cover (3) has a selector knob (10) which can be slid along an opening alongside the upper stack (4) so that a hook (7) suspended below can engage a selected page in that stack. Thus when the cover is opened, selected pages are raised with it, and the remainder remain unopened below. An arm (8) carrying the hook has protuberances (14) which can be freed from locating holes (15) in the cover when the knob (10) is pressed down against a spring (12). The cover is released when a second knob (18) is swung back against the force of a leaf spring (21) housed in the base (1). A nose (16) at the top is then disengaged from a lounge on the cover.
