摘要 1509621 Packaging-machines EX-CELL-O-CORP 19 March 1975 11416/75 Heading B8C Apparatus for closing and sealing an end closure of a container C, Fig. 1, having a tubular body, the end closure having front and rear panels 6, 7 joined by side panels 8, 9, the end closure panels extending axially from the tubular body in its open condition, comprises a pair of closing jaws 86, Fig. 11, operable to fold the end closure panels to a closed position with the panels 8, 9 folded beneath the panels 6, 7, with the panels 6, 7 lying generally flat and substantially transversely of the tubular body to close the end thereof with outer end portions 22, 25 of the panels 6, 7 projecting axially outwardly of the tubular body, as in Fig. 4, in opposed face to face engaged relationship, and welding means operable to weld the portions 22, 25 together to seal and secure the end closure in its closed condition. As described the panels 6, 7, 8, 9, terminate in sealing strips 18, 22, 25, and the panel 7 is provided with a closure flap 26 having a tear strip 27. Score lines 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 19 facilitate folding of the closure to the closed position and score lines 20 aid in defining a pouring spout when the container is opened. The container is of polyethylene-coated paperboard. In the apparatus described containers C, Fig. 6, are fed intermittently along a heightwise adjustable support 54 by fingers 60, Fig. 9, of conveyers 56, 58. At station 36, Fig. 6, two sets of vertically reciprocable plates pre-break the panels 6, 7, 8, 9, along the score lines. The container is then filled at station 38, e.g. with milk, and foam is removed at station 40. At station 42 the jaws 86, Fig. 11, are advanced by hydraulic cylinders 92 to close the tops of the containers. The cylinders 92 are controlled by a device 103 actuated by a follower 97 cooperating with a cam 99 on a rotating shaft 101 linked to the drive of conveyers 56, 58. The closed container then passes to station 46, Figs. 9 and 15, where ultrasonic heating means comprising a vibrating horn 120 and an anvil 114 co-operate to heat-seal together the upstanding outer portions of panels 6 and 7 over an area 28, Fig. 4. The anvil 114 may have grooves and recesses, or have a resiliently mounted plate to cater for variations in the thickness of the material over the area being sealed. As the container passes through station 47, Fig. 9, the flap 26, Fig. 4, is bent by a bar 144 towards a heated bar 148 and the heated flap is then sealed to the top of panel 6 as the container passes beneath a liquid-cooled bar 160. Means is provided for retracting the heated bar 148 should the conveyers 56, 58 stop.
