The front and rear ends of the vehicle are provided with a flexible impact energy absorbing cushion (1). The cushion covers all exterior lighting and has a scratch proof light transparent outer layer with preferably anti-dazzle properties. The impact cushion is filled with compressed air and mounted on an air tight support. The cushions have tear open points to collapse in the event of severe impact. The cushion height from the road surface is pref. uniform for all road users to double the protection.
