Novel thiazole carboxamide derivatives and their thio and imino analogues of the formula and acid addition salts thereof, wherein hlg is a halogen atom, R<SP>1</SP> is an amino or nitro group and R<SP>3</SP> is = O, = S or = NH, are obtained by reacting o-phenylenediamine or o-nitroaniline with thiazole derivatives of the formula wherein R<SP>2</SP> is a reactive group derived from a carboxylic or thiocarboxylic group, or an iminoether group, and, if desired, where R<SP>1</SP> is a nitro group, reducing the product to the corresponding amino compound. 2 - Chloro - 4 - thiazole - carboxylic acid chloride used as a starting material is obtained by reacting the corresponding carboxylic acid with thionyl chloride. Pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions contain the above carboxamides as active ingredients. The composition may be in a form suitable for oral, rectal or parenteral use. |
