The control circuit has selectably operable switches for controlling several comb-like fixed printing electrodes. A number (n) of neighbouring electrodes (1 to m.n) are combined in a block. Each block is couplable via a controllable group switch (B1, B2, Bm) with the other pole of the printing voltage (11). The electrodes are connected by controllable switches (S1 to Sn) with the block switch of their respective blocks. n control lines (St1 to Stn) are provided for the selection of the printing electrodes. The switches of the relevant electrodes are energised via these lines. The unit is designed to be inexpensive to construct and to require limited power.
