In Fig. 1 sewage enters chamber 25 which is closed by a lid supporting a submerged mixer, a surface agitator and an oxygen inlet 27, chamber 25 constituting a first aeration stage from which the gas and liquid flow, through separate openings into central chamber 37, where second stage aeration occurs. Oxygen-depleted gas is vented from chamber 37 at 46, and liquid flows into arcuate settling chamber 23 (Division B1/2) from which clear liquid is delivered from overflow 47 to chlorination chamber 61 and from which settled sludge is pumped into channel 51 which returns some of it to aeration chamber 25 and the rest to aerobic digestion chamber 53. In Fig. 7 (not shown) waste water is first treated chemically in the central chamber (237), then flows circumferentially through arcuate flocculation chamber (208) to arcuate settling chamber (210) from which settled sludge may be recycled to chamber (237).</p> |
