1509060 Pipe couplings; valves WEEKEND EQUIPMENT Ltd 12 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 33613/75 Headings F2G and F2V [Also in Division F4] Refilling of a cartridge 1 with liquefied gas is discontinued when the level of liquefied gas in the cartridge reaches a predetermined level, a float being used to move a lever to a position where it permits a valve member to move against its seat to close the respective valve and hence communication between a reservoir 58 and the cartridge 1. The cartridge has an inwardly curved base 3 with a connector 7 therein which includes a plug 9 threadedly engaging a plug 50 on reservoir 58. Plug 50 has a ball valve 51, 52, 53, 54 which is closed when connector 7 is not joined therewith, and plug 9 has a valve therein comprising a valve stem 26 with a head 29 urged against a ring seat 25 by a spring 27 acting between ring 25 and a washer 28 on stem 26. This latter valve is also closed when plugs 50 and 9 are disconnected. A valve 33, 34, 35, 36, 37 similar to the last-mentioned valve has its stem 34 engaged by a lever 43 having one arm 43b provided with a weighted float 45 such that, in the upright position of connector 7 shown in Fig. 1, the other arm 43a is moved away from stem 34 to permit head 35 to close the valve. Upon threaded engagement of plugs 9 and 50, a push rod 18 pushes ball 52 and stem head 29 off their respective seats 54, 25. The interior of the reservoir is now in communication with the tube 30 housing the lever operated valve via bores 21, 20, 22 in push rod 18 and the orifice opened between stem 26 and ring 25. If the reservoir and cartridge are now inverted to the Fig. 4 position, the weighted float 45 will cause arm 43a to bias stem 34 against the spring 36 and thus remove head 35 from its seat. Filling of the cartidge 1 in the Fig. 4 position thus proceeds until the level of liquefied gas lifts the float 45 thus moving arm 43a away from stem 34 to permit the associated valve to close and filling to cease. |
