1508734 1,3 - Dithiolan - 2 - ylidene malonate derivatives NIHON NOHYAKU CO Ltd 4 June 1976 [6 June 1975] 23177/76 Heading C2C 1,3 - Dithiolan - 2 - ylidene malonate derivatives of the formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, which may be the same or different, represent individually a C 1-4 alkyl group, and R<SP>3</SP> represents a chloromethyl group, a phenyl group, a group of the formula -CH 2 NR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>, where R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> represent individually a 1-4C alkyl group, or may form, in combination, a 2-5C alkylene group which may be interrupted by an oxygen atom, or a group of the formula -A-COOM, where M represents a hydrogen atom or a salt-forming residue and A represents a 1-4C alkylene, 2-4C alkylene, phenylene or cyclohexenylene group, may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with an acid chloride or anhydride and optionally reacting the resulting product with an alkali capable of converting the product into a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, or by reacting the above compound with monochloracetic acid or its anhydride and then reacting the resulting product with a secondary or cyclic amine. The reaction is suitably carried out below 80‹ C. in a solvent medium in the presence of a base. The products may be used to treat disorders of the liver and may be formulated and applied in a conventional manner.
