To ensure rigidity, struts 25, 35 connect the limbs 22, 32 to the frames 21, 31, and springs 41 bias the frames to a relative position in which chains 43 extending between them are taut. When the stall is empty limbs 22 extend vertically across the entrance to the stall and limbs 32 extend horizontally outwardly and abut a stop 54. When an animal, e.g. a sow, enters the stall the limbs 22 are pushed upwardly and limbs 32 moved downwardly by the springs until the position shown is reached in which a stop 45 prevents further movement of the limbs 22 and a stop 49 engages a 'bar 48 fast with the limbs 32 to prevent further anti-clockwise movement and thus prevent another animal from entering the stall. A catch 50 engages an end 51 of a bar 46 to prevent an animal leaving the stall until the catch is released by means of a lever 52. |
