<p>1279727 Slitting apparatus ZYCO MFG Inc 28 Oct 1969 [12 Nov 1968] 52727/69 Heading B4B An apparatus for slitting a strip 18 of material e.g. film, foil, paper or fabric comprises at least one cutting station 20 for receiving the strip from supply reel 12, a blade 58 adapted to be moved by means 64 to vary the cutting edge contact area and a reel 38 for winding up the cut strip. The blade 58 is in the form of a band which is fed from a cassette 60 and wound on a reel 62 by a gear motor 64 having a builtin timing mechanism for periodic operation. The band passes through a gap formed between two members 42, 44 providing a spool over which the material travels the edges of the material being held in contact with shoulders on the members 42, 44 by means of a resilient pad 52 e.g. of foam plastics material; the members are held together by means of a nut 56 and bolt 54 and the surfaces of the spool over which the material travels are coated with e.g. P.T.F.E. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the cutting band 122 is located at an angle to direction of travel of a film (102), the latter riding on bushes (116), Fig. 7, (not shown), made from e.g. P.T.F.E. In the apparatus shown, further cutting stations 22, 24 and (26, 28, Fig. 1B) are used. A switch 66 is adapted to contact the cut-off strip so that in the event of breakage the apparatus is stopped.</p> |
