The rotary disc power sander has vacuum dust-extraction through holes in the periphery of a flexible disc (2). Radial grooves in the active face of the disc (2) lead the dust to the periphery. The dust is drawn into a box (6) which covers a sector only of the disc (2) periphery, and the box (6) can be moved to cover alternative disc-sectors. The arrangement leaves unrestricted lengths of disc periphery, and enables the sander to penetrate fully into corners when sanding plaster on walls and ceilings. The open base (7) of the vacuum-box (6) may cover a 45 deg. sector of the disc (2) periphery. Adjustment of the box may be obtained by mounting it slideable on a fixed circular plate (11). The plate (11) is set concentric with and behind the grinding disc (2) and has an upstanding edge (12).
